Crystal Roots Retreats

I have waited nearly a month before penning a testimonial because I wanted to ensure that I was not just basking in the afterglow of my first Crystal Roots retreat, but giving a true and grounded assessment of the transformation – if such it turned out to be – that I experienced while there. I can now honestly and with great certitude say that that transformation was real, profound, necessary and beyond what I could have in my most optimistic moments hoped for. I have spent 52 of my 66 years sometimes only barely managing a corrosive eating disorder that has shaped my life in desperately unhealthy ways and grievously harmed both myself and those I love. I have dwelled in shadow all those years, shame and self loathing my constant companions. I hid it well, but that was my truth and it has been my truth since girlhood. No more. I am not a gullible person. I am not a credulous person. I do not fall for fads or trends. I do get taken in. I am not a sucker. Indeed, I err on the side of scepticism and cynicism, so I cannot begin to explain what happened in the course of those two ceremonies to heal me, only that they did heal me and that they did so absolutely, profoundly, fundamentally and in extremely practical, measurable ways. I have changed. I am different. I am whole, for the first time since I was a child. Of course, I am beyond grateful to Nubia and Zora and Mario, who provided the set and setting and compassionate support, more importantly, the bedrock of tremendous love on which Crystal Roots is anchored and that makes all who come there feel safe and cherished. They are Spirit Guides in the truest sense. As for me, I will come back. There is much I still want to understand about Nature and the Universe and the connection between all things and I am looking forward to continuing my journey with these wonderful people in this, dare I say, magical place.

I stayed at Crystal Roots for the first time this May 2016. I was highly impressed with the land and the facilties. To my knowledge this is the first retreat facility in Ontario designed specifically with the purpose of being a space for people to work with plant spirit medicines. The land is perfect and absolutely gorgeous – including cedar forests, ponds with fish, fire pits and a small waterfall. The buildings are both lovely with a fresh, clear, comforting feeling, and minimal esthetic. Although you are very connected to nature during your stay, the buildings offer all modern comforts such as good showers, great drinking water, comfortable beds and solid building quality. Going into a 4 day retreat for the first time I felt overwhelmed by the responsibilities of life, nervousness, stressed, tired and anxious – but the land and the space truly grounded and comforted me throughout the entire experience. Leaving – I felt centered, balanced, and recharged. The hosts and owners Zora and Nubia are absolutely lovely people who model a healthy and progressive lifestyle. Dealing with them makes your stay even more of a pleasure. Their care and attention really shows. They love what they do and care about every detail of their space, and of your experience there. I commend these women on going forward with the undertaking of creating Crystal Roots. They have filled a major need in the healing community – and have set a very high precedent in so doing. I look forward to my next visit, and would recommend this space to anyone looking for a sactuary they go to rejuvenate and connect.

I'm still in awe over the last 24hours. The two of you and extended family having created a magical haven for all those open enough to receive the gifts you have to share.
